Ready for complete classic cucumber salad?
This particular recipe is closely related to German tradition, where it is called Gurkensalat. This is a popular side dish that came to the USA. It is light, refreshing and easy to make. You can find two different versions of the cucumber salad, one of which has a light vinegar sauce, and the other is creamy. In the cream, the version will be a sauce of sour cream, dill, garlic, sugar and a small amount of vinegar. Both vinegar and cream versions can also be found in southern cooking. Although the recipe seems to have originated in Germany, it came to the southern part of the United States through German immigrants. Of course, there are small variations, but this version is my favorite. Also, I will show how Japanese and Asian people make such salad.

Its easy! To make it less fat you can replace sour cream with greek yogurt 0%, or make it more tasty with a combination of greek yogurt and RANCH.
Can I add tomatoes to cucumber salad?
Yes! If you want to give more color to your salad, you will add tomatoes, also red onion, and pepper. This combination of ingredients is incredible. To make cucumber tomato salad less fat, replace sour cream with vinegar and lemon juice.
Can I add onions to my cucumber salad?
Of course, just slice thinly the cucumbers and the onion, and stir everything together. You will get a delicious combination. By preparing cucumber onion salad, put sour cream for a refreshing flavor. Don’t forget to keep this salad in the fridge not more than one day, because of a strong smell of onions.
Carbs in cucumbers
Cucumbers are low in carbs and very high in vitamins or minerals. 100 grams of chopped cucumber contains 4 grams of carbs
- 2 long English cucumbers
- 1/4 cup white wine vinegar
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 Tbsp sugar, (or coconut sugar or sweetener of choice)
- 1/3 cup fresh dill, chopped
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
How to make cucumber salad?
- Season cucumbers with salt in a large bowl and let sweat 1 hour. Drain liquids and toss cucumbers with onion slices.
- In a small saucepan over high heat, pour in white vinegar and water and stir in sugar until dissolved and liquid turns clear, 3 to 5 minutes.
- Pour over cucumbers and onions. Stir in dill. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate 1 hour. Serve cold or at room temperature.
